There is power In your word!
Ever since I became a human being I’ve always wondered what powers lie in the power we, as humans possess to express ourselves. Expression or the ‘WORD’ has lost its meaning in so many religion and cultures. Look at the uncompromising order of the solar system of the universe, the meticulous weaving of the flowery petals, the consistent changing of the seasons, the way of the eagles in the air, the way we breathe, the shinning sun, the singing bird, the living microbes, the growing plants, etc. All these are evidence of a designed complex order of a universal being called God.
The bible brings us to understand that the power of expression starts from the beginning of creation.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him and without Him was not anything made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” (John 1:1-5)
Also, the bible at the beginning of creation made us to realize how God formed the earth and all creation by His Word.
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
6 And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water."
7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so.
8 God called the expanse "sky." And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.
9 And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so.
10 God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good.
11 Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so.
12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
13 And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.
14 And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years,
15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so.
16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.
17 God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth,
18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.
19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
20 And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky."
21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth."
23 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.
24 And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so.
25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, [b] and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."
29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.
30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was so.
31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. (Genesis 1:1-31)
God is the originator of expression, He spoke and it came to being. Such is the creative power we, as human prototypes do possess to make things happen around us. We can make and unmake our lives by this power. I am writing this article to share how we can make use of this power at our disposal. But first I want my readers to fully comprehend the meaning of expression. I must first tell you at this junction to lay aside all your religious affinity and open your heart to understand my hypothesis, at least for the sake of criticism or contribution.
I will now attempt to give my own definition of the word ‘Expression.’
“Expression is that power, skill, talent, ability, a person possess to show his ideas, will, desires, with the use of any media.”
This means that that ability you possess to let someone know and understand what goes on in your mind is ‘Expression’ or the ‘Word’ as used in the bible.
Expression can be in any form; imaginative, written, visual, audio, demonstrative, thoughtful, creative, etc.
There three characteristics of expression. It is symbolic in nature and mostly built up by images, symbols, signs, codes, or representation. Some cultures and schools of thoughts have developed various forms of representations to act as carriers of information in the course of expressions. It also possesses value because without it no form of presentation will produce any effect or reaction. The third characteristic is the effects or the reactive force produced during issuance or demonstration.
This means that every word or expression projected possesses some potent creative power that causes things to happen positively or negatively. You are what you say! Little wonder the Bible says that: ‘As a man thinketh in his heart, so he is…’
Beware of what you think, say, write, draw, and demonstrate, because every careless word spoken by you will be judged. Expression is spiritual, and by it the body is rejuvenated. Christ said.
‘It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.’
With this in mind, let us beware of the way we use this power called expression. Beginning from your thought forms, start to purify yourself. Let the fire of the Holy Ghost burn away all those fearful thoughts of death, fear of night and darkness, sicknesses, quarrels, anger, malice, danger and any thing that has the appearance of evil. On daily basis let the thoughts of love, goodness, bliss, appreciation etc. fill your heart and endeavor to sow good things around you by rendering blessed service to people so that you can build up a handsome spiritual bank account for yourself.
After this start to confess and proclaim physically the goodness of the mercies of God via aural, written, worship or any other form as deemed fit by you through spiritual activities and the likes.
Thirdly, demonstrate your faith openly by conforming to the dictates of a good Christian with laudable moral values.
Summarily, do all you can at your disposal to further spread this gospel of universal peace and love to all creatures both human and non-humans. Because salvation is not for mankind alone but all creatures. That is why the bible says…
‘And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.’ (Mark 16:15)
